Moray Maras and Salt Mines Tour is a popular half day tour in Cusco. Both Maras Moray are an important part of the Sacred Valley of Incas and have played an important role during the Inca civilization.
Salinas de Maras or maras Salt Flats are salt pools which have been existing since pre Inca times. It has been passed down in the line of succession. Locals here continue to practise the traditional Solar Evaporation salt farming method just as their ancestors.
They let in the natural spring water to these salt puddles and wait for it to evaporate. When it evaporates they manually scrape out the salt. The salt of Maras has a distinct flavour and is nutritive.
Ruins of Moray are a peculiar archaeological site in the Sacred valley. The agricultural terraces of Moray are holes dug into the ground with different layers. Each of these layers has different temperatures. This helped the Incas to determine the best weather condition required to grow any crop.

Itinerary
We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to Maras. On your way you will be rewarded with the sight of natural beauty of the highland region of Peru with snow capped Andean peaks.
Once in Maras, our local expert will be giving you a detailed tour of the site. You will be introduced to the traditional salt farming method.
We will then continue the Moray Maras & Salt Mines tour to the archaeological complex of Moray. This was more like an agricultural laboratory to Incas. Here our guide will explain how the site has played a role in the life of Incas.
After the tour, we will be driving you back to your hotel in Cusco.
