Day 1

DAY 1: Cusco – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna

Chachabamba (2,150 meters above sea level)

We will pick you up early in the morning in a comfortable private bus from your hotel and drive for two hours through Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo train station. From here we will take the train for 1 hour and 45 minutes following the Urubamba River valley (with clear views of the majestic Veronica snow peak) until we reach the beginning of the trail around 10 a.m.

KM 104 marks the starting point to hike the Inca Trail. Here our guide will assist you in presenting your permits and passport to the authorities. Then we will cross a footbridge and take the easy walk down the Vilcanota River to the archaeological site of Chachabamba (2,150 meters high).

It is a stone altar – site that was used to worship the sun (“Inti” in the Inca language of Quechua) and the deities of the mountain (“Apu”), which are still honored by the local population.

After a brief stay in this fascinating archaeological complex with fountains and water channels, we began the ascent of approximately four hours to an incredible viewpoint of the magnificent valley. From here we will continue towards the remarkable ruins of Wiñay Wayna (eternally young “) (2,650 meters elevation).

Machu Picchu:

After exploring the ruins we will walk along the side of the mountain surrounded by a lush cloud forest, full of giant tree ferns, broadleaf plants and beautiful orchids. We will continue with the iconic Inti Punku (the “Puerta del Sol”). Here we stop to see the natural grandeur of the surrounding peaks and admire for the first time the remarkable citadel that our ancestors left us, that is to say “Machu Picchu”.

Our last half hour will take us along the path that allows us to appreciate the scale of the ancient altars and buildings of Machu Picchu. From the historic city of Machu Picchu, we will take a 30-minute bus ride to the town of Machu Picchu, there we will check-in at our comfortable hotel. (Optional to visit the hot springs of the town).
