Itinerary

Day 1

DAY 01: Cusco City Tour

A Peruvian Highland Trek representative will meet you on arrival at Cusco Airport. We will then transfer you to your hotel. Often hotels serve the traditional coca tea or mate de coca as a welcome drink to help you acclimate to the altitude. 

At 1330 HRS, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco to begin the Cusco City Tour. This is a half day activity and serves as an introduction to Cusco, the historic city of South America. 

Cusco City Tour

The tour starts with a visit to the iconic Cathedral of Cusco. It nestles right next to Cusco’s main square – Plaza de Armas. We will then visit the Temple of the sun or Coricancha. Here you will be able to marvel at the Incas’ way of construction. 

Then we will be driving you out of the city to Sacsayhuaman. It nestles at 3 Km. from the city of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman features an impressive stone fortress with excellent architecture. 

The fortress is famous for its huge carved stones some of which are at 9 m/ 30 feet high. It weighs some 350 tons. Here is where the Inti Raymi or Fiesta del Sol is held in June Every year.

We will then drive to Q’enqo. It is a ceremonial and ritual center, amphitheater where sacrifices were made.

Then we will be visiting Puca-Pucara. It is an old tambo (resting place), monitoring place throughout the Inca Empire Routes.

Cusco City Tour culminates with a visit to Tambomachay. The complex is 7 Km. from the city of Cusco. It features a ceremonial center of worship to the water, known traditionally as the place where water rests.

After the tour, we will be driving you back to your hotel in Cusco. 

Day 2

DAY 02: Sacred Valley

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to Pisac. 

Pisac:

We will continue the Cusco Sacred Valley tour to Pisac. This is a remarkable place. We will begin the tour by visiting the archaeological complex that nestles on a hilltop overlooking the valley. 

After a detailed tour of the complex, we will be driving you to the centre. Here you will be able to visit the traditional market. 

Urubamba:

For buffet lunch, we will be stopping in Urubamba. Here you will be able to savour some local delicacies. 

Ollantaytambo:

From Chinchero, we will be driving you to Ollantaytambo village. Here we will be visiting the archaeological complex. Our local guide will be giving you a detailed and an in-depth tour of the site. 

After the tour, we will be accommodating you in a hotel in Ollantaytambo. 

Day 3

DAY 03: Machu Picchu

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco quite early in the morning for a full day tour. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you through the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo train station. 

Here, we will be boarding the train to Aguas Calientes . This is an authentic travel experience as you will get to see the Peruvian highland farms and villages on this expedition train service operated by Peru Rail or Inca Rail. 

Once at Aguas Calientes train station, the tour guide will be meeting you at the train station and will be transferring you to the bus terminal. Here, you will be boarding the bus to visit Machu Picchu citadel. It is a 25 minutes drive. 

Machu Picchu Tour:

Once at the entrance of the citadel, your guide will be assisting you in clearing the security control and to enter the citadel. We will then give you a detailed two hours tour of the lost city of Incas, The Machu Picchu citadel. 

After the tour, you will have some free time to explore the citadel on your own. Alternatively, if you have booked in advance, you can hike the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountains. 

Optionally, you can even hike to the Sungate or Intipunku. You won’t need to book it in advance. This offers a spectacular view of the citadel. Only those on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu enjoy the view at the first light of the sun. 

After the tour of the Incas city of Machu Picchu, you will be taking the bus back to Aguas Calientes town. 

We will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room in Aguas Calientes. 

Day 4

DAY 04: Machu Picchu – Sacred Valley

Today we will relax in the hotel and return to the Sacred Valley in the afternoon. Overnight in the Sacred Valley. (Breakfast / Lunch).

Day 5

DAY 05: Sacred Valley- Maras- Moray.

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to Maras. On your way you will be rewarded with the sight of natural beauty of the highland region of Peru with snow capped Andean peaks. 

Once in Maras, our local expert will be giving you a detailed tour of the site. You will be introduced to the traditional salt farming method. 

We will then continue the Moray Maras & Salt Mines tour to the archaeological complex of Moray. This was more like an agricultural laboratory to Incas. Here our guide will explain how the site has played a role in the life of Incas. 

After the tour, we will be driving you to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6

DAY 06: Free Day Cusco.

Today you will be free to go shopping and explore some of the other places of interest in Cusco. (Breakfast)

Day 7

DAY 07: Cusco South Valley Tour

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco for a hall day trip to South Valley. We will be driving you to Tipon. Here we will be visiting the archaeological site. Our tour guide will walk you through different parts of the complex and explain the significance of each site. 

After touring the complex, we will be driving you through Oropesa to Pikillacta. Oropesa is the bread capital of the country. It is home to plenty of bakeries. 

Piquillacta Ruins nestles on a hilltop overlooking the valley. We will be giving you a guided tour of the complex. Here you will get an insight to the Wari Civilization. 

We will then continue this half day South Valley Tour to Andahuaylillas. It is home to the Sistine Chapel of Andahuaylillas. Here we will be visiting the prominent chapel where our local expert will be giving you a tour. 

After this, we will return to the city of Cusco. We will be dropping you off at the main square, Plaza de Armas. 

Day 8

DAY 08: Cusco Airport Transfer.

We will be driving you to Cusco airport for your flight out of Cusco.
