Cusco Sacred Valley Tour – Sacred Valley Day Tour from Cusco
Cusco Sacred Valley Tour – Sacred Valley Day Tour from Cusco
The full day Cusco Sacred Valley Tour is the best addition to the Cusco City tour to get an introduction to the history of the Inca empire before your trip to Machu Picchu. The archeological sites in the valley held a great significance in the life of Incas. Some are functional even today. Sacred Valley Day Tour from Cusco takes you to three iconic Inca sites, Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.
All these sites are home to some popular Inca ruins. Local people of these villages continue to maintain their age-old traditions and customs. Infact, most continue to converse in Quechua.
Pisac:
This beautiful village houses a massive Inca citadel on top of a hill overlooking the valley. Infact, it is just second to Machu Picchu.
Pisac is popular for the weekend market. Farmers and craftsmen from the neighbouring villages set stalls around the main square to sell their produce. Although the weekend market is popular, you can still find shops open on regular days on the narrow alleyway near the plaza.
Ollantaytambo:
This village is possibly the most beautiful of all sites in the Sacred Valley of Incas. Ollantaytambo depicts the perfect town planning of Incas. With aqueducts built in the centre of cobblestone streets, Ollantaytambo village is snuggled between two Inca ruins perched on hill top.
The complex held a great spiritual significance to Incas. On Spanish conquest, it turned out to be a war ground. This is the closest town to the trailhead of the Inca Trail. Also most trains to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu) depart from here.
Chinchero:
This is often overlooked by tourists. Chinchero is a small village near the city of Cusco. To Incas, the village of Chinchero was a prominent place. It has the most fertile soil in the whole of Sacred Valley.
Inca emperor Pachacuti built his palace here. It was taken down by Spanish conquistadors and they built a church on its remains.
